2021 Call for Volunteers

The IPSA World Congress Team is currently seeking dynamic volunteers willing to contribute to the 26th World Congress of Political Science. Due to the virtual format of the Congress, IPSA, for the first time, will be accepting volunteer applications from around the world.

To register, please fill out the Volunteer Application Form before 20 June 2021.

Requirements

  1. Volunteers are accepted from all academic backgrounds. Those enrolled in programs related to the fields of Political Science, International Relations, Economics, International Political Economy, History, Philosophy, Sociology, International Law, Business, Communications or Marketing may find the academic content of the World Congress to be of particular interest. 
  2. The official languages of IPSA are English and French. Volunteers must be proficient in English. Knowledge of any other language is a plus.
  3. Volunteers must be available for a two hour training session to be held virtually on 6 or 8 July 2021.
  4. Volunteers must have their own computer and a reliable high speed internet connection.
  5. Volunteers must be comfortable using computers. Experience with virtual teaching or networking platforms is an asset.
  6. Volunteers must be available for a minimum of three (3) full shifts between 10 and 15 July 2021. The working shifts will be:

  • A volunteer certificate;
  • A letter of volunteer participation (upon request);
  • Complimentary access to attend the Virtual World Congress outside of their shifts;
  • Complimentary one-year IPSA membership.

Task Description

Virtual Information Desk 12
  • Staff the virtual information desk and respond to general inquiries;
  • Comfortable in both English and French;
  • Familiar with the program and the World Congress website;
  • Have a good understanding of the virtual platform (Bizzabo).
Virtual Room Attendant 50
  • Supervise the virtual rooms in which the Congress discussions take place;
  • Assist panel chairs (moderators);
  • Give access to the participants;
  • Engage on social medias to promote the panel discussions;
  • Familiar with the program and the World Congress website;
  • Have a good understanding of the panel formats.
Special Events: Scheduled Meetings & Award Sessions 3
  • Receive pre-shift briefings from the World Congress and Events Coordinator and from the World Congress Director;
  • Know the guest speakers and the special events;
  • Work with the team leaders in non-event times.
Media 2

Social Media Team

  • Participate in specific sessions (plenaries, special sessions, awards, opening and closing ceremonies etc.) to take notes and post short messages on IPSA’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn);
  • Every day at 22:00 UTC, submit the daily reports to the Communication and Promotion Coordinator to be posted on the IPSA website;
  • Coordinate interviews with IPSA representatives and LOC members.

Photo/Video Team

  • Attend designated events to take screenshots and videos and share with the Social Media Team.
Pre-congress Activities 2-6
  • Assist with monitoring the activities on the Pre-congress day of 9 July 2021 (Special Workshops and Research Method Courses).
