Description

This panel seeks to bring together scholars interested in the politics of structural choices, that is the deliberate decisions by political and/or bureaucratic actors to redesign the governmental organization structures. We aim to identify key explanatory features - taking these choices as a dependent variable - as well as to discuss potential implications and effects - turning these choices into independent variables. Our methodological approaches are wide-ranging and we equally invite papers with quantitative and qualitative or mixed-method designs. Furthermore, we will study these structural choices in Western European parliamentary systems as well as in authoritarian regimes (such as Russia) and supranational arrangements like the EU.
