Description

Cultural Heritage and Identities of Europe’s Future (CHIEF) is a multinational research project under European Union’s Horizon 2020 program. It studies patterns of cultural literacy among young citizens of Europe and Asia in order to facilitate a future of Europe based on more inclusive notions of cultural heritage and identity. The project attempts to explore the processes of cultural transition and privileging of various identities through an inter-disciplinary, multi-sectoral and transnational partnership in nine countries in and outside the EU. Through its research activities and social interventions, CHIEF hopes to have a substantial impact on policies and practices facilitating intercultural dialogue in Europe.
The proposed panel would present some of the key findings of the CHIEF project on issues related to political socialization of young citizens of Europe with a focus on their perceptions of diversity, minority rights and the ideas of national cultures. These findings will be based on cross national studies consisting of large N surveys of students and field studies and ethnographies conducted at multiple locations including cultural organizations, heritage sites and voluntary groups.
