Abstract

Many observers familiar with French political life agree that Marine Le Pen and her "Rassemblement National" (RN) can potentially win the presidential and legislative elections in France. This is partly related to the new discourse adopted by the party members, including indeed Le Pen herself, which makes a meaningful part of French population believe that the new version of the Front National does not pose a threat to the Republic. Yet, there are serious grounds to believe otherwise: an authoritarian conception (and application) of power in the party, a sui generis conceptualization of citizenship and a polarizing approach to patriotism.
