WC2021 Important Information for Participants

Dear colleagues,

This page provides important information to all participants attending the 26th IPSA World Congress of Political Science to be held virtually, 10-15 July 2021. Please familiarize yourself with the information below.

Congress Virtual Platform

The WC2021 Virtual Platform is the portal where the World Congress will take place from 10 to 15 July 2021. The World Congress Team is working hard on making sure all information on panels, papers and participants have been duplicated to the Virtual Platform. The Virtual Platform will be launched soon and an update will be made on the Congress website.

Virtual Platform Access and User Guides

We invite all participants to consult the Virtual Platform User Guides providing instructions on how to access the Virtual Platform, upload presentations and run virtual panels / sessions.

The Virtual Platform is accessible via invitation only. Invitations to the Attendee Portal and Speaker Portal were sent by email. Participants will be required to sign up once to join the Speaker Portal with an e-mail and password. Please refer to the Technical Requirements section if you are experiencing access difficulties.

Visit the Virtual Platform page for more information, which is updated regularly.

Time Zones

All dates and times in the Virtual Platform will be displayed in UTC. When viewing panels and sessions, local dates and times will be shown in addition to UTC based on the time zone setting of your device’s operating system. You may also refer to WorldTimeBuddy or Time Zone Converter to confirm the schedule time in UTC to your time zone.

Program Schedule

Please refer to the online Program Schedule (in UTC) for the most updated information on the time of your presentation or panel. Click [My Schedule] to view the schedule of panels where you have a role. You may use the Time Zone Converter to convert the schedule time in UTC to your time zone.

Note that each panel was scheduled taking into account the individual time restrictions indicated in the submitted schedule information form, individual conflicts with other roles in the program and preferences indicated by the panelists. In all, there are five (5) levels of restrictions/conflicts that were considered during the scheduling process, which was not an easy task given the span of time zones.

We are aware that some scheduled time periods may not be optimal for all panelists. If the majority of panelists are absolutely unable to participate at the scheduled time, the panel convenor or chair may send a reschedule request to wc2021@ipsa.org by 20 June 2021. All members of the panel MUST be consulted before sending the request. Due to the international nature of the Congress with participants from a range of time zones who often participate in multiple panels, we will unfortunately not able to accommodate everyone’s request.

Registered participants will also be able to access the electronic (PDF) version of the WC2021 Program on the Congress Program page as of 8 July 2021.

Paper authors will have the option to present live or pre-record their presentation, in no more than 15 minutes. Presenting authors can pre-record their presentations (in MP4 format, max 10 GB) which can be uploaded in the Virtual Platform prior to the scheduled panel. Paper presenters who uploaded a pre-recorded presentation are required to attend the live session and take part in the Q&A in order to receive recognition of their participation.

The panel duration is 1h45min and must include time for questions. For more information about the format of your panel and duration of paper presentations, please contact your panel chair (or panel convenor) directly (view the contact list in the panel).

The session moderator (panel chair or presenter) can record the live session upon agreement with the panelists. Recorded sessions can be requested on demand after the Congress.

Full Papers & Online Paper Room

Paper authors were expected to submit their full papers by 20 June 2021. If you are the main author and have not uploaded your paper, please do so by the deadline.

Guidelines: A written paper, in English or French, no more than 25 pages, single-spaced on letter-sized (or A4) paper. Refer to Guidelines for Full Papers.

You may view all submitted full papers in the IPSA Online Paper Room, available to IPSA account holders.

Once a paper has been uploaded, it will appear beneath its corresponding paper abstract. The uploaded papers are visible to all Congress participants (logged in) from each individual paper web page or in the Online Paper Room.
